The Tour for Diversity in Medicine (T4D), conceived by former medical student leaders, seeks to bring premedical enrichment activities to underrepresented minority undergraduate students at campuses across the U.S.  Created by two former SNMA leaders and currently staffed by SNMA and LMSA members and Alumni, we launched our inaugural Tour in February 2012 and are proud to have reached more than 2700 students through our grassroots efforts. We would love your involvement in any of three ways:

  1. Traveling with our Tours: Our Model is simple: Reach the students on their home turf!  With Tours ranging from 3 to 6 days, T4D volunteer Mentors share their personal achievements and interact with students in a friendly and motivating environment. 10-15 underrepresented minority physicians, dentists and medical students serve as workshop facilitators for each day of a Tour and work in conjunction with the host institution to set up each Educational Stop.  The T4D “Mentors” include young practicing physicians (allopathic, osteopathic, and podiatric) and dentists, as well as medical and dental students, from different educational backgrounds, with different specialty interests, and with a variety of dual degrees. Mentors are specifically chosen to highlight the stages of growth from young student to young professional (up to 5-6 years of practice). Mentors are enthusiastic, have excellent presentation skills, and have interesting personal stories about their own distance travelled to a career in medicine and dentistry.  A pre-health/medical advisor is also invited to expand our capability for outreach and education.   All travel (to the initial location and from the final location), lodging, and food costs will be covered by the Tour.  Travel between stops will be by Tour bus with hotel lodging at night.  In preparation, biweekly-monthly conference calls will be held for all Mentors in order to coordinate presentations and other pertinent activities.  We ask that Mentors join us one day prior and one day after the final scheduled stop in order to rehearse and debrief accordingly; Mentors are required to be present for the entire Tour.  Once the Tour is complete, as a member of the T4D family, Mentors are invited to take part in a wide range of additional opportunities, including individualized e-mentoring of students we met along the Tour, webinars, quarterly newsletters articles, Blog posts, and future scheduled school visits.
  2. Webinar involvement: We recently released our schedule of monthly webinars going into Calendar Year 2016.  We would love to have you join us as a presenter on any of these topics:

3) Blog involvement: Our blog will be published on a weekly basis, and similar to the Webinars, we would love to highlight LMSA and any interested writers.
